E2Designlab and Permeate Partners provided strategic advice in relation to the servicing strategies for water, wastewater, drainage and groundwater management for this historic former whaling settlement and coastal village on the NSW far South Coast, south of Eden.
Opportunities and risks associated with shallow groundwater resources were described including cost effective sustainable drainage infrastructure. A technical appraisal of the on-site wastewater treatment plant identified strategies to optimise treatment performance and defer investment in new infrastructure. A site visit identified optimum locations for land disposal of treated wastewater via irrigation - potentially of fodder crops, grassy woodlands or other productive uses. A succinct report documented available information and analysis of the water balance for future development scenarios highlighting the significant changes in stormwater and wastewater generation and the benefits of the recommended strategies.
The report identifies the servicing requirements for a sustainable coastal development with water management infrastructure that protects the ecological, recreational and amenity assets of the local area that attract tourists to the region.
