The Toolern Integrated Urban Water Management Strategy supports the Toolern Precinct Structure Plan and provides direction for Western Water’s infrastructure planning and policy’s.
Under our former employer, our team’s delivery of this strategy included stakeholder engagement to assess potential solutions and combine them into infrastructure portfolios. Case studies were undertaken at the allotment scale through to semi-regional scale including water balance and infrastructure costs to compare the cost and benefits of alternative supply portfolios.
The recommended strategy included centralised recycled water for non-potable residential demands and extensive stormwater harvesting to support expansion of agribusiness across the region. The strategy also identifies implementation planning tasks for Western Water that interface with community acceptance and the infrastructure planning and operational needs of Melbourne Water and Southern Rural Water.
