Elizabeth Street Catchment Flood Risk Reduction Study
City of Melbourne
Understanding the benefits of WSUD to reduce the impact of flooding in highly urbanised catchments is key to unlocking the multiple benefits offered through integrated water management. Building on previous studies undertaken by our team we investigated the benefits of WSUD within the Elizabeth Street catchment. The project assessed a range of WSUD design responses and quantified the effects on peak flows and changes in peak flow rates. The analysis was undertaken for selected infrequent storm events and for a long time series to understand changes in the probability of minor flood events (<= 1 in 10 year). The outcomes of this study showed the benefits associated with individual WSUD assets and informed further work in regards to detailed hydraulic modelling to understand spatial changes in the timing of peak flows on downstream impacts.
