The project harvests stormwater from Elster Creek with treatment in a sediment basin and wetland located within Elsternwick Golf Course. Treated water is stored in Elsternwick Park Lake and harvested to irrigate football ovals and the golf course, as well as transferred to the adjacent municipality for use by other sporting clubs.
The scheme provides a rare inner-urban opportunity to harvest up to 100 ML/yr of stormwater with a reliability of over 90%. The project delivers a secure local alternative water supply, improving the amenity value of the sporting fields and whilst significantly reducing pollutant loads discharged to Port Phillip Bay.
Our team led all design stages through to construction documentation (civil and landscape drawings) for the treatment wetland, storage and reuse scheme. The system was constructed in 2013.
Water Sensitive City Outcomes:
- alternative water supply
- construction supervision
- stormwater quality improvement
